Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema Projector

...The Optoma UHD65 is going to rock the projector world! - Evan Powell, Projector Central

The Optoma UHD65 is a state of the art 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) Projector for
home cinema and home theater capable of delivering ultra sharp images
with a high level of detail and breathtaking color. With 4 times the pixels of
1080p, an Ultra High Resolution of 3840x2160, 2200 lumens, 1,200,000:1
contrast ratio, RGBRGB Colorwheel, High Dynamic Range in the form of
HDR10, vertical lens shift and a massive 1.6x Zoom, the UHD65 has been
engineered to deliver the ultimate 4K UHD home viewing experience.

8.3 Million Pixel Resolution

The UHD65 is powered by the revolutionary Texas Instruments 4K DLP UHD
Chipset with a high performance DMD utilizing XPR video processing
technology with fast switching to display 8.3 million “distinct” pixels as
mandated by the Consumer Technology Association’s 4K UHD 2160p
specification.

Beautifully Crisp Images, with Reduced Motion Blur

The UHD60 can project 4K UHD images up to 140 inches, allowing
viewers to be in optimum viewing area to enjoy all 4K UHD pixels, from
a distance of up to 11 feet. The average 55-75 inch 4K UHD TV simply
cannot match this, as viewers typically sit further away from their TV than
the optimum viewing area of 4-6 feet. High Dynamic Range, also known
as HDR is the true star of the 4K UHD show. HDR leverages REC.2020
wide color gamut and DCI-P3 color gamut coverage to deliver super
luminous levels of white, the deepest black levels, and beautifully striking
like-life real world color that was previously only possible in the Cinema.
UHD65’s PureMotion technology enhances games, movies, and sports by
eliminating noise, motion blur, and shaking in fast motion video, creating
images that are clear, consistent, and smooth.

1.6x Zoom and Long Lamp Life

A generous 15% vertical lens shift and 1.6x optical zoom provide a great deal of flexibility in terms of installation location within the home while dual 4-watt stereo speakers generate audio that is loud and crisp. Lamp life on UHD65 is a strong
10,000 hours in ECO mode and an 15,000 hours in Dynamic mode.

Features:

  • Native 4K UHD 3840x2160 2160p, Bright 2200 lumens, and RGBRGB Colorwheel for rich mind blowing color
  • HDR-Compatible - HDR10 produces the brightest whites, deepest blacks, and life-like color that is beautiful and striking, all courtesy of the REC.2020 wide color gamut and DCI-P3 color gamut coverage
  • Dynamic Black delivers 1,200,000:1 contrast ratio for exceptional black levels
  • HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 deliver a full 18Gbps for the best 4K UHD video bandwidth, image quality and device compatibility
  • Vertical Lens Shift and 1.6x zoom provide an intuitive and flexible installation
  • UltraDetail allows fine adjustments to image clarity and sharpness resulting in a clear and highly detailed image
  • PureMotion technology eliminates noise, motion blur, and judder in fast motion video, producing clear and consistently smooth images

Comments about Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema:

I've had this projector for a little over a month now and still can't believe how great it looks! At first I was a little disappointed in the picture when watching streaming video but then I put in an 4K blu ray and was blown away by the difference. Quick tip: play around with the sharpness settings to dial in the perfect image...too low seemed a bit blurry in some scenes, too high seemed a bit TOO sharp and unrealistic. I was a bit worried about purchasing a DLP projector as my wife is sensitive to the 'rainbows' but other than one movie that had a lot of high contrast white and black scenes, she hasn't complained once. For the price, this is a no-brainer!

Comments about Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema:

The limited use so far, do to limited options in setting the projector position to get a rectangle. I have Panasonic AEU8000 which is mounted high and up right. I can not do that with the Optoma, if mounted high, it has to be inverted. And with out keystone correction, it has to at least be located on the screen center line horz and at least in line with the top of the screen or slightly below. So without a ceiling mount to invert the projector, it is currently unusable.

Comments about Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema:

This project is better than expected. Picture quality is excellent. Details are fantastic. I am projecting onto a 120" wide acoustically transparent screen in a dark movie room and there is plenty of brightness to spare. Really great color with the project, HDR work very well. I'm sure glad I waited and save the $4500 over the next cheapest 4k projector. Very good buy!

Comments about Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema:

Great projector. I replaced a high end Sony and the picture on the Optoma UHD65 is crisper and brighter. The fan is super quiet. My only pet peeve with this projector is the absence of Keystone adjustment. Why leave this off??? It's critical in most home theater setups to get the picture perfectly framed on the screen so this is a big miss. But for the money, really nice projector.

Comments about Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema:

After ordering and reading blogs and review on the UHD60 from projector central, I was concerned that this projector (UHD65) was going to have an input latency that would ruin gaming. To my surprise, the gaming mode on the projector turns off some aspects of image processing and I notice no lag while gaming at all. The projector's images are very fast and responsive. Cinema mode is stunning while watching movies (color is amazing)-- even the 1080P movies look much better than on my old Optoma HD80 (native 1080P). This projector has HDCP 2.2 so it will be compatible with UHD 4K Disc playback. I couldn't be more pleased with this projector and the Optoma products I own.

Comments about Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema:

I highly recommend this projector if you can work with its limited placement. I ceiling mounted it in my theater room but couldn't fill my 135" screen from the distance I had in my room, about 14 1/2 feet. I watched a few minutes of planet earth 2 and Star Trek before boxing it back up to return it. The picture looked fantastic and I was really disappointed that I couldn't use it in my situation.

Comments about Optoma UHD65 4K UHD 2200 Lumen Home Cinema:

Purchased this to replace 2 year old LG PF1500. I had bought a Samsung KS8000 last year and was really enjoying the sharper images from blu ray, Netflix and cable TV (Frontier Fios). When I watched similar content on my PF1500 the images were no where near as bright and sharp, which caused us to use our dedicated media room less. As soon as I saw the Optoma UHD65 available I was interested and the early reports of great picture quality sold me on taking the plunge. Received it 4 days ago and have been super happy with the unit. 4K and even 1080P is super sharp and clear - as clear as my Samsung KS8000, though perhaps not as bright. 4K HDR content has been amazing and even broadcast 1080P looks great. Highly recommend this projector as a good value foray into 4K for movies and such, especially if you have good control over ambient light.

Regarding the Optoma UHD 60 and UHD 65. I understand they have essentially the same internals however I do notice that the more affordable UHD 60 has significantly higher lumen rating. Is it essentially that the UHD65 keeps lumens lower to increase contrast rating?

My Panasonic 7000u has the very important ability to me of having an automatic lens shift when watching widescreen films by focusing automatically between wide screen and the normal 16-9. Does this unit have that ability?
Also are you aware of any future projector that uses laser light source instead the current lamps? (I would need to keep the price of such a projector in below $10'ooo range)
