Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 5030UB 2D / 3D 1080p 3LCD Projector

What is a B-Stock Model?

These are 'like-new' units that may have been returned, or used as samples. These units go through an extensive refurbishing process and are repackaged in a plain brown box. The units have the original factory warranty included.

The Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 5030UB brings the movie theater experience home. With Epson's UB technology, also known as Ultra Black, and it's 2400 lumens of brightness; movies, sporting events and video games virtually jump off the screen. One of the main improvements over the previous model is the contrast ratio which almost doubled from 320,000:1 to 600,000:1. Not only does the Epson 5030UB look like a more expensive projector on the outside but performs like one on the inside as well. With it's excellent picture quality, 2D imagery is smooth and life-like with an overall dynamic range that makes the image pop off the screen. 2,400 lumens of color brightness delivers amazing images in a light controlled room and can more than hold it's own in moderately lit rooms.

Horizontal and vertical lens shift and a 2.1x zoom ratio ensure setup flexibility in difficult installation environments. And, THX display certification, the performance benchmark recognized by consumers and professionals, ensures natural textures, and a film-like movie experience. Plus, two pairs of RF 3D glasses are included, so you’re always ready for exciting 3D experiences.

Comments about Epson Home Cinema 5030UB B-stock:

Been eyeing this projector for sometime for my living room (countless hours watching youtube videos, reading reviews, manuals, etc.) and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations. The blacks are really black and paired with my 96" Firehawk screen this setup can handle the ambient light in my living room mounted on the ceiling from roughly 11ft away. Zoom and lens shift make the setup very easy.

I current run the projector in ECO mode most of the time using the presets of "cinema" or "THX" and the image still has enough pop to project a bright image.

By far the coolest experience was watching Avatar BLu-ray in 3D :D ...Blu-ray movies are by far the most impressive, however streaming content through my Amazon Fire TV and Netflix hold there own. Only complaint is the cable broadcast signal which range for 720p to 1080i, no fault of the projector.

Comments about Epson Home Cinema 5030UB B-stock:

I use this in a dedicated home theater room. Low power lamp mode of THX mode is well calibrated out of the box, and is plenty bright to light up a 120" screen. No visible pixel structure when viewed from 8-9 feet away.

The only con is that I had to already use the Epson warranty to replace the projector as this one had a defective LCD panel. Epson support was easy to work with though, and shipped a replacement to me overnight. I don't remove any stars for the defective unit, as there's always the possibility of receiving a bad unit, and Epson was superb at replacing it.

Picture quality is phenomenal, and 3D is extremely enjoyable which is odd considering I don't normally enjoy 3D. This is the best 3D I've seen outside of a commercial theater. Watched Gravity, and it was intense!

Highly recommend this model, and B-stock with a full warranty makes it even more unbeatable.

      Picture fits the sound!

      By Phil Lepley

Comments about Epson Home Cinema 5030UB B-stock:

I spent a lot time researching the various websites that reviewed quality projectors. I was looking for the best projector available at the best price. I also knew that it would be an interim projector because UHD (4K) will eventually be the benchmark. But they are too expensive now and it seems manufacturers are interested in upgrading the quality of presentation (brightness), rather than the presentation (pixels) itself.

So 1080p is it. And for me, at the price I paid, this projector is it.

I wanted a theater type environment, so I bought a 119 inch diagonal screen--105 inches wide. We sit about 13 feet away from the screen and images are incredible. We watch a lot of Netflix, and the faults of streaming easily become evident with the picture. It's obviously not the fault of the installation or the equipment.

We need more bandwidth to make steaming effective, but we live in a rural area and are limited to about 10mbits/second. This is a caveat when looking at an image that is movie theater quality for DVDs.

This projector has great presentation--right out of the box. I've yet to sit down and calibrate it. So I am using default settings and the picture is just really, really good. It's clear, it's bright and you can have ambient light on if need be. I've darkened our media room -- only one window to deal with, and then have a lamp near my sitting position to read by. Not a problem with this projector.

With blue-ray dvds, we've watched all of the Star Wars movies, Interstellar, Gravity, even oldies but goodies such as Fifth Element and Bladerunner. We have not been disappointed in the picture. We watched Avatar in 3D and we were just amazed how wonderful the Avatar world came to life.

We watched Superbowl L yesterday and our guests had never seen a projected image in a residence. We were all impressed a how good the picture was. You could read the lettering on the football!

We have a 7.1 audio system and now the picture fits the sound.

The lamp would be replaced by Epson if it has over 250 hours on it. It's 32 db on the noise and you have economy mode to lower the fan noise

I do not know if the lamp was replaced. The projector is very quiet when running. I forget that I am not watch a huge television, and really just looking at my wall. I would not think twice about buying this projector again.

It was already a B stock when I bought it. I didn't replace the lamp.
The fan was a little noisy- more than the 5 year old projector that it replaced. If you can afford it go for the Sony that's considered comparable. The motion flow is drastically better on the Sony.

The bulb was new in the unit I received but I don't know if that's always
the case or if I just got lucky :-)
I installed it directly overhead and the fan is reasonably quiet, except
when watching 3D movies. I suspect that the lamp goes into high power mode
to help compensate for the dimming effect of the 3D glasses and the fan is
noticeably louder. It's not objectionable but definitely noticeable.
Regardless I'd buy it again. Hope that helps.

I think it is a new bulb. The noise in cinema mode I can not hear. If the
projector is in day mode then yes it is noisy but not too bad.
