Way to go

Comments about Optoma EH500:

It's replacement for old Mitsubishi HC3. With HDMI works great. In last few weeks I've watched some movies, NHL and NBA games and improvement is great. And the fan noise is very low, barely noticebly. For the money it's great buy. I'm sure there are better projectors but this will be very satisfactory one for even picky viewers.
Thanks to Kirk for all his advise.

Yes it's an excellent home theater projector. A great variety of inputs and is bright enough to display a great picture if the room is not entirely dark. I doubt you'd regret purchasing this projector.

Does the EH500 have a minimum throw distance for a screen this size and if so, how far?

You'll want your receiver to support 3D. You can get a 5.1 or 7.1 system sound system to work with your receiver.
